Lucy's intricate and uniquely beautiful handcrafted designs have been part of the First Eleven collection since 2004 when she joined the team. She reinvents and interprets traditional embroidery techniques to achieve thoroughly contemporary designs, which are aimed at the bedding, curtain and upholstery markets. Lucy uses several techniques but at the moment specialises in Irish machine embroidery. This pre-war sewing machine produces a dense satin stitch that can easily be interpreted for production. To be up to date with current trends, she hand-dyes all her fabrics, using mainly silks and linens, aware that the aesthetic quality of the fabric is an integral part of a successful design.
Lucy's collections are timeless and innovative, showing well-researched and finely drawn imagery, whether the samples are bold florals or geometric graphic patterns. Current influences are historical textiles, particularly Danish design of the 1940's and Lucienne Day and the Bauhaus weavers of the 1930s.
Lucy gained a first class honours degree at Manchester Metropolitan University in 2004.
